My project is going well so far. I have already added some color to it (those pictures will come in the next process post), and I am pleased with how it looks. To branch out from past projects (but still keep it connected to my theme), I chose to tell another story about sexual assault, but this time, instead of making it generalized (a departure from my theme), it features a character (Yahaira) from a story I'm writing in the immediate aftermath of rape. The color scheme features the three primary colors, as I wanted to include red and the other colors were chosen just to go along with the red. Though the red represents her pain, I chose to show it as drapery/fabric rather than splatters both to obscure her and to make it less immediately triggering. The yellow and blue will be used for her body and hair/facial features respectively, and possibly for the unoccupied spaces in the background. (If not, that will be red as well.)
The working title is Eden, after Yahaira's rapist - an uncomfortable acknowledgment, but his actions inspired the piece, and his name fits the piece for the same reason it fits his character: irony. Eden the place is a utopia, free from all possible troubles and responsibilities; yet Eden the character only causes sorrow and pain and the piece is a manifestation of the pain he has caused. The picture is of Yahaira hiding in a mass of red in an attempt to cover herself up. Both she and her pride have been wounded, and in hiding her pain she has surrounded herself with it.
